"You couldn't have known that he was the conspirator. But we will more than happy to help you find him."
"Mistress. The two you sent, they should've been nearly here, shouldn't they?"
"What is it?" Jakys murmurs, voice quiet as his eyes flick to her, muscles tensing at her expression

"What is it?"
"I made a mistake," she whispers, gaze flicking to Vras. "I made a mistake employing them."
Onyx's jaw ticks and he takes a deep breath. "We're too far. They could be long gone by now."
Vras frowns at them, gaze growing questioning. "What are you talking about?"
"I... I had meant to capture the sherai," Esper admits, realizing now that her original plan has fell through. "I was to challenge her, and I sent mercenaries for her."
"Those mercenaries double crossed us," the wolf says lowly. "We should've ran into them on the way here, or at least a sign of them, but they are no where near. Not even the forest speaks of them."
"You were attacking the Sherai?" Vras asks, tensing.
"She was to be brought alive and well," Esper explains quickly. "No harm was to befall her or her Ma'heege."

Stilling at their words, Jakys's jaw ticks as anger starts to rise in him before it fades the moment Vras tenses, moving in front of Esper calmly "We'll find her, Vras. I take responsibility for what she's done. If anyone is to be tried, or punished, it'll be me. Not her."

Vras studies both him and the girl closely, though he takes a breath and shakes his head. "No one is to be punished," he answers, looking at Esper. "If the Ajitan trust's you enough to protect you, then I make no move to harm you. You've also shown that you regret your decisions, which is enough in my scripts. Do you not?"
"I never meant to bring absolute harm to her," she answers quietly. "I only wanted to find my place, to finally return home, to have a right as the late Sheran's daughter."
Vras nods, but he looks to Jakys next without worry. "You said Iniago was with her when you left, so if anything has befallen Sherai, I know her Ma'heege will take matters into his own hands. And if I know their connection as well as I believe I do, I feel we have no reason to worry. Sherai is a fighter, and she doesn't give in easily. And with a Ma'heege alpha at her beck and call, she'll return safely, I'm certain of it."
Esper studies him closely, apprehensive. "How can you put so much faith in her when she hasn't returned to you?"
He looks at her with a steady gaze. "She is her father's daughter, just as you are her sister. His traits run deep in the both of you, and I can see that both of you will do as he did-- following your Khal (heart). You listened to yours on your way here, didn't you? If you had not, you wouldn't have expressed your regret or honestly accepted your guilt as you just had."
She stares at him a moment, then looks away with a small nod.

So if something happens to Iberia, and it goes wrong, will you help me get her back?" he asks quietly, gaze shadowed

Esper purses her lips, unused to being talked to as an equal. Their reassurances and praises makes her feel a little better, but something still nags at her. At Jak's question, she nods. "I will go with you, yes."

"Thank you. Would you permit us to stay for the night?"
"You're the Ajitan, and the Sherai's betrothed. Of course you're permitted to stay." He looks to Esper. "And as the last of Sherai's family, you are as well. And I can promise you that while you are here, no one will harm you, or they will have to go through myself and Frey."
Esper gives a small smile. "Thank you, Eldejit." (Elder/sir)

Vras dips his head with a nod. "Of course." He looks at the both of them. "Lemain will be ready soon, if you are hungry by then." He turns and walks out, leaving them to their own.
Esper lets out a shaky breath and slips her pack off her shoulders, and Onyx steps over and takes it from her, holding his hand out for Jak's.

Onyx nods and takes the packs over to the chest, setting them down as he removes his cloak.
Esper studies Jak a long moment. "What's on your mind?" she asks.

"Do you wish to have your own tent?" Jakys asks calmly, gaze trained on hers

"Do you wish to have your own tent?"
For a moment she just stares at him, then she snorts, a sound almost like a stifled laugh, and shakes her head, though she hesitates.. "I don't trust anyone here enough to be on my own," she admits, even if she doesn't like it. "Unless you want your own."

Face turning red slightly at the sound she makes, Jakys huffs, looking away, jaw ticking "I'm indifferent. I just thought maybe you'd want privacy." he mutters, standing
