"I don't want him to go. I don't want to lose anyone else." A hiccup. "But someone has to go, don't they?"
"He's not going. Not if I have anything to say about it." Avery murmurs, running her fingers through his hair
"Eventually, yes." Galen murmurs, eyes softening "But for right now, I think we all need to relax, and train."

"He's not going. Not if I have anything to say about it."
"Eventually, yes. But for right now, I think we all need to relax, and train."Aru nodded, hastily clearing his face with a sleeve. He kept his gaze down, still burning with guilt.
Zay sat against a tree, panting, slightly cold, but smiling a little. In front of him, the trees around the clearing, ice patches had shown, some shattered, some not, but one tree stood out. It had a solid sheet of ice like armor, and it didn't shatter. Nor did the Chuck around his hand. He laughed breathlessly and without sound, letting the ice retreat into his skin. He made progress, and he let his head leaned against the tree as he shook his hand and rubbed his arm.

"Go find him for me?" Avery asks Aru hesitantly, eyes wavering, guilt starting to claw at her insides before she pushes it away with a shake of her head

"Go find him for me?"Aru sniffles then nodded, giving a tiny smile. "Okay." He turned and started walking towards his tent, pausing at the flap, then took off running around it and into the woods.
Zay closed his eyes. He knew he was at his limit, and made a mental note of it as he rubbed his arms. Twenty rounds of hardening ice, finding he could manipulate water, and ten rounds of testing the ice armor on other objects besides himself. Four out of ten hardened armors on the trees were stronger than steel, three mildly strong, and three weak, all spread out. He also shot fifteen projectiles, only three of them remained intact on impact.
Hearing footsteps he turned his head, training his vivid blue gaze on him as he gave a small smile. "Hey, kiddo."
Aru slowed and stopped, staring wide eyed at the ice fragments, then the ice on the trees, then looked at Zay. "D-dad? What did you do?..."
"Ran a few runs," he replied, looking forward. "And blew off some steam."
The boy walked over hesitantly, worried. "You look like snow..." He touched his forhead, frowning. "You're colder than normal."
Zay closed his eyes again. "I'll be fine. Just fetch me a cloak so I can heat up a little, and I'll be good as new. I promise." He looked at him. "Can I count on you?"
Aru's chin quivered a little, remembering telling them about the wall, but he nodded, forcing a smile. "I'll be back then." He turned and hurried back to the tent.

"Be safe." Avery murmurs, small smile as she watches him run off
Watching her, Galen snorts before his hand catches the back of her head gently "Don't go getting any ideas. I know you, Malyns, better than he does."
Smile fading, she looks at him, gaze sharpening "Just keep an eye on him for me, will ya?" she asks, smile returning immediately at the sound of Aru's footsteps "Did you find him?"

"Did you find him?"
Aru nodded as he rounded the tent, darting inside and running back out with his cloak. "Just wore himself out." He paused and looked at Avery, sensing something. However, he let it go. "He has to warm up before he can move." With that, he started back down the path.
Zay rested, eyes closed as he tried keeping the shivers down, shifting a little as he felt a cloak. "That was quick, Aru. Thank--" he opened his eyes and froze when he went to wrap the cloak around himself, face paling and eyes widening. The girl in front of him gave a light smile.
"You shouldn't push yourself, little brother," she said gently. "You'll freeze to death." Then turned and ran back into the woods.
Zay remained froze, muscles taut and eyes wide and watering, mouth parted just a little and pulled into a disbelieving and heartshattered expression.
Aru reached him, skidding to a stop with a small cry as he stumbled on ice, stopping and looking at Zay, seeing the cloak and Zay's expression. "D-Dad...?"
"She....But it's impossible..." Zay started murmuring to himself, ignoring Aru.
Aru hesitated, then called for Avery, not knowing if she followed or not. "Mom!"

"Just wore himself out. He has to warm up before he can move."
Opening her mouth, she closes it with a frown of confusion, still
"Mom!"
Head snapping around, her eyes widen before she takes off, darting around trees, reaches them in seconds, 1/3 of the time it would take a normal person, hands grasping Aru's arms "What's wrong?"

"What's wrong?"
He clutched Zay's cloak to his chest. "I-I don't know." He looked at Zay, who sat with his head in a hand, the other clutching the other cloak that was tan colored, knuckles white as he shivered. "I came back, and he looked like he had seen a ghost, and he had that cloak and started murmuring. H-He's never been this way before."
"It was her," he croaked, voice broken. "But it's impossible. I buried her twelve years ago." Ice pricked the hand on the cloak. "I buried them both." He raised his head, the expression of shock melting into rage as he stared at the place where there wasn't any ice, where she stood, bristling.

Eyes widening, she rushes over, kneeling by Zay, slowly reaches towards him, stilling at his words
"It was her. But it's impossible. I buried her twelve years ago. I buried them both."
"Who, love?" she murmurs quietly, hands grasping his face, trying to bring him back to her

"Who, love?"
Feeling something touch his face, his head grew heavy, leaning on her hands as he forced himself to staighten, blue vivid and skin chilled, focusing on her, though frost gathered on the cloak. The anger remained, but so did the part he had burried, the little broken piece. "Skyrien. My sister," his voice was low, fleeting. "I buried her. Yet she was here."
Aru hesitantly stepped over, throwing his cloak over his shoulders. "Y-you just overworked yourself. Maybe imagined her."
"Imagination doesn't manifest a cloak. Her cloak."

"Imagination doesn't manifest a cloak. Her cloak."
Stilling, her face shadows at his words before she leans in and kisses his temple gently, small sad smile "You weren't imagining her. It's not the first time this has happened, and it won't be the last. Around here, you see people you've lost all the time. I would say you get used to it, but you don't. I don't know if it's the wall, or something Rheraven has managed to do. But ever since we mad camp here a few months back, the dead keep reappearing."

Closing his eyes, he relaxed a little, the ice scattered around melting and retreating into the ground and the trees, and carefully, Aru knelt down and gently pulled the cloak in Zay's hand from him, and he let him. After a few moments of calming himself he opened his eyes again, though the anger still simmered. "If he is using the dead against people, I swear on the power I have that I will gear him apart if I ever see him," he said lowly. "No respect for the dead..."
He pulled the cloak closed, a hand holding the edges as his shivering stopped now that he was warming up.
