At the kiss Zay relaxed a little more, seeing that she was back and here, and not a threat. His hand tangled itself in her hair, and after a moment he pulled back to catch his breath, forehead resting against hers. "Don't run off like that again," he murmured, pulling back a little more to look at her. "If anyone plans to go over, then we'll go together. I don't know what I would have done if I lost you on the other side." He brushed her hair back from her face.

Blinking away tears, she grits her teeth and nods, hands still clutching the edges of his shirt loosely as she looks down "That goes for you too, Zay... And I," pausing, she swallows, lump in her throat "I'm sorry I got you burnt. If I had known it was Genoa.. I should have killed her myself.." voice hitching, she turns her head away, uncomfortable

"With time and focus, it won't happen again," he replied, looking towards the wall. "It'll take some time, but it'll reach a point where it won't affect you." Sometimes for the worse. He could still feel the effects and how his own alignment threatened to swing a different way. And in turn, his thoughts started drifting towards the cleric and her words, word of his father. His jaw ticked, remembering how she addressed him. What was it she knew that he didn't?

"No, you're wrong," he leaned back and looked at her, hands grasping the sides of her face as he searched her gaze. "You have all the reason to fight. You have the commander, the people who need you, who need us, to fight back this plague that threatens everyone. You have Aru, you have the little one." His hand moved and gently touched her stomach. "The future is a good reason to fight. Don't let despair and hate drive you. It can lead to a bitter end."
He paused a moment, and in the back of his mind he wondered where his words were coming from. "Instead of using hate and despair as the reason for fighting, use love and hope, and the want to finding a better tomorrow. Even if those things aren't familiar-- I mean, hell, this is the first time in a long time I've cared about another person outside of Aru-- they'll grow familiar. They become all that matters. The past happened, it can't change. But today, tomorrow, they can."
