"I'm just scared for the baby..." She whispers, barely audible "What if..."
"What if what?" Zay asked gently, looking at her before looking over at the tent door when he heard footsteps, seeing Aru peek his head in. Slowly he reached an arm out then nodded a small nod, and Aru's face crumpled as he ran over and leapt at Zay, arms wrapping around his neck. Zay's outstretched arm caught the boy, and he stayed quiet as Aru shook against him. His gaze trained itself to a point on the wall of the tent, feeling the guilt in his stomach, however faint it was.

"What if.." She starts, stiffening when Aru runs over and jumps into the bed before she forces herself to relax, eyes peeking out from Zay's shirt

After some time, neither of them spoke. Aru had buried his face in the crook of Zay's neck, quiet, and Zay's head tilted downward as his eyes trailed and looked into space. "I'm sorry," he murmured. "I broke a promise."
Aru shook his head. "The lady said you had to, to save momma," he whispered, voice cracking a little.

Watching the two of them, her eyes widen instantly at Aru's words, tears filling her gaze, hand flying to her mouth before she pulls him into her arms as well, moving closer to X'zayvean in the process "My boy..."

Aru raised his head a little and let her gather him, his arms transferring Shia grip to her as he nestled against her. Zay llooked at them both, his gaze darkened in thought but still gentle, his arms holding them both close.

"I'm sorry I scared you.." She whispers, burying her face in his hair "But I'm glad your daddy was there. He saved my life." she states, eyes clouded as she stares down at the bed

slight timeskip-- about four hours
Zay looks up as the cleric from before steps back in, holding something wrapped in cloth as she met his gaze with a small shake of her head. He sat Aru down from his lap, murmuring quietly, "why don't you go grab some food for your mother and I."
The boy looks at Zay, then nods, offering a small smile, though he understood what was going on. "Okay. I'll bring back some jerky." He stood and passed the Cleric, looking at her a moment before he continued out.

Sleeping with her head on Zay's lap Avery lays curled with her legs beneath her, tears still dotting her cheeks, only fell asleep a little while ago, exhausted
