"Apologies."
Zaire shakes her head at the apology. "Nonsense, you did nothing wrong." She reaches and takes another sip of wine, looking at him.

"Nonsense, you did nothing wrong."
"But I have." Galen states quietly, looking at her then away, hands tearing at the bread on his plate

"But I have."
"How? All you did was ask a simple question." She sets her glass down again, hands going to her lap for a moment as she tilts her head at his actions. "What's ailing you, Commander?"

"How? All you did was ask a simple question. What's ailing you, Commander?"
"I asked that question out of nothing but pure selfishness, because of my attraction towards you, not curiosity."

She blinks at him, taken aback by the fact he admits such a thing, though her expression relaxes a little. "A question is always asked out of curiosity, regardless if it is selfish or not."

"Perhaps." Galen admits, quiet as his eyes finally flick back to hers "Did I make you uncomfortable?"

"Perhaps. Did I make you uncomfortable?"
"Do I look uncomfortable?" she asks gently, smiling a little. "I'm not easily made uncomfortable by any means."

"Do I look uncomfortable? I'm not easily made uncomfortable by any means."
"No, but I did just reveal that I find you to be beautiful." Galen murmurs, taking a sip of his wine, nerves starting to set in

"No, but I did just reveal that I find you to be beautiful."
"And I accept it as a compliment," She raises her glass to him, swirling the contents around in it. "It's pleasant to know that all my time in the world hasn't come to affect me negatively."

Relaxing, Galen sighs softly, shooting her a small smile as he raises his glass to hers "Here's to your health, and the prayer that age treats you well, that you live many more years."

Raising hers in return she dips her head a little, smiling as the glass rings out. "As to you, Galen." Zaire takes a sip, eyes on him, unable to entirely admit her interest.

"As to you, Galen."
Nodding slightly, his smile fades a little as he tips the glass past his lips, falling silent as his thoughts threaten to consume him

After a moment of the silence, she gains the nerve to ask, voice gentle. "What happened to your wife?"

"What happened to your wife?"
Stiffening at her question, Galen's hand clutches the glass so hard it breaks, breath hissing out in pain before he inhales slowly, eyes closing as wine stains the table "She... Disappeared. Not long after I was enlisted here. She refused to let me go fight alone, you see. I'm not sure if it was I who drove her away, if legion got her, or if she was snatched by Rheraven himself."

Her lips curve into a frown, then her expression becomes apologetic. "My apologies," she says quietly. "I shouldn't have asked. I knew what happened to your son, but..." Zaire takes an unsteady breath, understanding his pain and anger. "My apologies."
