He whirled to try to counter the woman before she froze her fist into his back, grinning as he dropped to his knee with a strained groan, his body quivering, but her face paled and eyes widened as she watched her brother fall and she let out a shrill wail.
"Step away from him, Ginoa. You should have stayed dead."
Her gaze sharpened and she started forward, but she tripped when Zay pushed himself up and back against her. When she dropped to a knee she grabbed his collar and pulled him over her shoulder, pinning him with a knife as he throat. "And you should've stayed where you belong. Just as he should've stayed in his hole like the coward he is."
Zay hissed, struggling to regain his breath, eyes moving to Av. "Get across the wall," he ground out.

"And you should've stayed where you belong. Just as he should've stayed in his hole like the coward he is."
Stiffening when Ginoa puts a knife to Zay's throat, her eyes flick between him and her, gaze locking with his when he speaks
"Get across the wall,"
"I won't." She hisses, reaches over and grabs "Rizuin", gritting her teeth when the inky substance surrounding it spreads to her arm, gaze returning to Ginoa "He's a coward? You were my father's best friend. I loved you, like I loved my own mother. And just before the fire in which everyone perished, you were nowhere to be found." raising the sword, her eyes flash "Did you desert, go to the wall, to rheraven, to stay alive?"

"Avery, damn it, get over the wall," he jerked free enough and threw Ginoa off balance, rolling to push himself up.
"Not so fast," she snarled, driving a knee into his back and pinned his arm, leaning forward with her knife poised again, her hand gripping his wrist tightly as she glared at Av, her smile malicious. "Things change, sweetheart." She pressed the knife against his skin as she pulled him up, using him as a shield. "You humans should see that fighting is futile. I mean, look," she leaned and kissed his cheek where the first burn was, the black spreading and he jerked. "You're weak. Foolish. He came rushing in here to save you, blinded by emotions, and look at where he's gotten himself. Between his enemy and his lover's enemy, still trying to play hero. But Rheraven, he made us more powerful, showed us a different way. Living with yet without emotion." Her expression darkened. "Yes, I ran to the wall. Yes, I left you all behind. But I had already decided to leave, I just waited too damn long. Hate me all you want, Avery. But I've found home." Her grin returned. "And I sure as hell love my job."
She twitched to pull the knife across Zay's skin, but he twisted around last minute and drove his hand into her side and jumped away, stumbling and dropping to his knee, shaking.
Ginoa growled. "Still fighting?" She started forward, but Zay pulled his hands up in fists in front of him, the ice he left on her side crawling down her legs.
"Now, Av," he growled, eyes vivid and bright as he kept the ice there and growing to keep her in place, Ginoa letting out a yell of frustration.
"I knew we should've slaughtered you with them, X'zayvean Oroze of Lynold's Hold. You and your maddened father-- the two of you are nothing but a thorn in our sides!"

Stiffening at the kiss, Avery's jaw locks, eyes flashing as she watches the events unfold, sword still raised "I'm going to kill you." she hisses "For my family, and the tribe."
"Still fighting?"
"Now, Av,"

"Gladly." she responds quietly to him, ignoring her words, lost in hatred, arms grasping the hilt tightly as she moves forward in a blur, blade pointed at Ginoa's heart

"Gladly."
Inside Zay felt his chest squeeze but he didn't falter, holding Ginoa in place as she let out a scream at Av's blade, jerked just last moment to try to save her own hide, but keeping a hand clenched Zay formed a dagger from ice and took charge and mimicked Avery's movements. Ginoa gasped, eyes wide before she dissolved, staining the ice black. Zay stood still as a statue even after she disappeared, moving slowly a moment later as he straightened, the ice receding, though his eyes still remained glowing.
"Let's get to the other side," he murmured, turning away and took a step before dropping to a knee. He gave a quiet groan and forced himself to his feet, voice strained as he wobbled, gaining footing a moment later. "We need to be quick. The burns need to be treated by blessed water to wash away the darkness. It won't spread, but it'll keep burning like hell until it's cleansed."

Watching as her sword pierces Ginoa's heart, she slowly lowers her sword, black shadows still circling the hand that holds it, barely hears Zay
"Let's get to the other side."
Turning her head halfway in his direction, her gaze finds him after a moment, gaze emotionless, almost cold
"We need to be quick. The burns need to be treated by blessed water to wash away the darkness. It won't spread, but it'll keep burning like hell until it's cleansed."
"I don't care about the burns, I can't even feel them." she murmurs, voice dull as she watches him, fingers tightening around Rizuin "I'm fine."

"I don't care about the burns, I can't even feel them. I'm fine."
He looked back at her, leaning against the wall where he had moved the debris side before. "I didn't ask," he murmured. The corners of his eyes pinched as he forced back a shudder. "We need to go. Don't make me drag you back, because I'll be damned if I have to."

"Don't you even touch me." She states flatly, raising Rizuin to eye level, malice crossing her gaze before she grits her teeth, fighting back the darkness that's threatening to consume her "I don't want to see Aru, not like this. And you..."

"Don't you even touch me. I don't want to see Aru, not like this. And you..."
Something struck a cord inside, the first time he had ever outbirsted. "Avery, stop being bull headed!" He pushed off the wall and took a step away, expression mixed with frustrated pain, anger, and something more. "If we don't go, what you're fighting is going to swallow you. This is the first time you've been burnt by them, I can see it, and if we don't--"
He stopped suddenly, mouth closing as he felt something prickle, then shuddered and lowered himself to a knee with a groan, his hand moving slowly around his side and touched the edge of his back, and he cursed loudly. Of course she did. He didn't move as he slowly lost feeling in some places. "Aru will be fine," he ground out, hand gripping his side. "And as weak as it makes me sound, I can get through that gap on my own. Not like this." He collapsed from crouching to sitting, his fingers on his other hand moving slowly as each started touching his thumb as the numbness spread.

"I don't care-" she starts to grit out, stiffening at his expression, pausing when he falls to a knee, watches silently
"Aru will be fine. And as weak as it makes me sound, I can't get through that gap on my own. Not like this."
Teeth gritting, she clutches Rizuin tighter before she sheathes him in the belt at her waist, blade still glowing. Walking over, she leans down and slips his arm around her shoulders, lifting "It's not weak." she mutters quietly, helping him to the wall, eyes straight ahead

"It's not weak."
Hissing when he's pulled to his feet, he fought to get them under him unsteadily as he leaned on her a bit. With a strained gaze, he tried to match his steps with her, struggling and fumbling. "You may not care now, but there are people expecting you back," he ground out, ducking through the opening, a hand pushing against the wall. His eyes moved to Rizuin, something lingering in the back of his mind before his gaze moved to his feet in an attempt to move better.

"You may not care now, but there are people expecting you back,"
Helping him through silently, her hand slips to Rizuin when he glances over, silent until they get back to the camp, stiff from the burns her body is telling her are there, but can't feel them
