Aru's face brightened even more, and he ran over and lept onto the bed, hugging her tightly around the neck. "We're going to be an even bigger family!" His feathers ruffled in excitement.
Zay smiled, taking a breath as the news settled, making him feel light. But then he felt the responsibility behind it, and determination took hold. He would keep his word.

Zay leaned up from kneeling and kissed her her forehead, the turned to Aru. "Aru, I have some business to take care of."
Aru turned and looked at him, settling in Avery's lap. His expression fell a little. "You're leaving?"
"I'll be back, kiddo. I always come back." He smiled and ruffled his feathers a little. "Will you help out while I'm gone?"
The boy's feathers ruffled then flattened, golden eyes uncertain as he nodded. "Of course."
Zay's eyes softened and his kissed his forehead, turning back to Avery. "I'll be back as soon as I can." His hand found her cheek, thumb stroking it. "I promise."

"Spring is starting, which means they're going to start calling," he started, looking at her. "The sooner I can get there and explain, then take the rank, the sooner I can get back." He hesitated a moment. "And there's a side stop I need to make on the way."
Aru stared, though he looked down as he caught where. "Ariella and Skyrien's resting place."
He gave a stiff nod. "It's been too long since I've paid my respects."

Aru looked at her, recognizing the question, then at Zay, and Zay is the one who explained. "My mother and sister."
"At least take Rizuin with you.."
He leaned back and looked at the sword, carefully picking it up. "I couldn't take your sword and leave you with nothing." He studied the blade, hands careful as he did. "I couldn't do that."

"I... I'm sorry.." she whispers, eyes wide
"I couldn't take your sword and leave you with nothing. I couldn't do that."
Shaking her head, she wraps her arms around Aru gently "I'm Florasven and Rougenguard, taking after the latter more. My father and his people are good at remaining unseen if we wish, and his traits were passed down. I want you to take him." she murmurs softly, standing to lay Aru down in the bed

Aru laid down, watching her and him. Zay stood with the sword in hand, looking at the blade, then at her. He still was hesitant. "Are you sure about this?"

Zay stepped over to where Aru was dozing and sat down a moment, pulling a small wooden carving he had hid from him in his pocket. "This is for you for your birthday," he murmured quietly, turning the little bird man over in his hand. "I know it's not that day yet, but I want you to have it now." He reached and lifted one of his hands, placing the figure underneath it. He leaned down and kissed his forehead, leaning back and smiling softly when the boy stirred a little, then stood and walked out of the room and quietly closed the door.
He walked over to where he kept his packs and bow, taking the pack and placing some rations of bread and jerky, and a few herbs that Avery had taught him about, and packed them as well.

He put on his pack and grabbed his cloak, pulling it on and fastened it, then grabbed his quiver, bow, and sheath for Rizuin. He stepped over to her. "I think I've got everything."
