"That's quite an understatement."
He stepped to the saddle, watching the horse as he took a side step away, eyes trained on his. Slowly, Zay placed his foot in the stirrup, adding a little pressure, in which Hros responded with a flick of his ears and a shift of his weight. Zay followed his movements, swinging himself up as the stallion tried to shy away, feet in the stirrups and hands holding onto the reins as Hros tried to rear again. Zay pulled on the reins, shortening them and giving Hros less room to throw the energy, and the stallion gave a harsh snort as he tried jerking forward, attempting to toss his head and prance around himself. He knocked Zay from the saddle with a sharp buck, but Zay's reflexes allowed him to snatch the horn and use his legs to stop the fall, quickly pulling himself upright as he murmured quietly to the stallion, Hros continuing his fit.
Using his knees, Zay applied pressure opposite to where the stallion wanted to turn, slowing the movement, and the battle went on until Hros finally stopped, though his muscles quivered. Zay released his hold only a fraction of an inch, and the stallion went to take full advantage of it, darting forward, though he pulled him to a sharp stop near the commander, the horse still prancing in place. Zay looked at him with a small grin. "It'll take time, but I think I'll manage." The horse gave a deep puff of air, sides expanding as his muscles still quivered, ears flattened.

"It'll take time, but I think I'll manage."
Stifling laughs every few minutes, Galen frowns when the rest of his group takes off without him, scouting ahead, jaw ticks but stays put, watching. Face paling when Hros obeys, at least partially, he shakes his head hard, rubbing the back of his neck with a smile, turning his horse around, starting to lead the way "That's good work, but you'll never tame him like her." he murmurs, grinning

"That's good work, but you'll never tame him like her."
He followed after Galen, muscles taut and tasked with keeping Hros in line, though once in a while the stallion makes a start for it, determined to work his new ride into giving up. "No one can ever replace a companion's first."

"No one can ever replace a companion's first."
Setting his mare at a trot, Galen smirks lightly at his words "Perhaps not. But, I think it's perhaps he smells Malyns on you. It is her beast, after all."

"Perhaps not. But, I think it's perhaps he smells Malyns on you. It is her beast, after all."
He chuckled a little, holding the reins in one hand and patting Hros's neck. "So that explains that familiar tick you have, Hros." He relaxed just a little, the stallion tossing his head at the loosened hold as he was urged into a trot. "The same stubborn and wary movements that still hold confidence. Just like her."

Chuckling, Galen looks over at him, eyes slightly tired but relaxed "And yet, one of the finest creatures I've ever seen. When he showed up at the camp carrying at least two wounded men but without Malyns after the last expedition, I expected the worst, thought about killing the poor thing. It kicked and screamed for days, trying to escape, until it suddenly fell silent. The same day, that you showed up with her when she came to explain what had happened. Probably smelt her and calmed down, knowing she was alive."

Zay's gaze softened a little as he looked at Hros. "A loyal companion." He smiled as the the stallion tossed his head again in an attempt to pull the reins free, but Zay held on.

"A loyal companion."
"Aye." Galen murmurs, eyes finding the way ahead, smile slipping at the wall seen over the trees to their right, face tightens a bit before they reach a clearing, slows his horse "We're here."

"We're here."
Zay's eyes moved to the wall, his easy demeanor diminishing, a hand reaching and rubbing his shoulder as a memory Sears through him. As his gaze sharpened his jaw ticked. Hros, as though sensing the sudden tension, stopped his fit throwing and fell still a moment. "The wall," he murmured.

"The wall,"
"The last place Rheraven was ever seen." Galen murmurs, voice gaining mirth for a moment before it's gone, face impassive, slides off his horse, soft thump as he hits the ground

"The last place Rheraven was ever seen."
Hros gave a small whinny of relief when he dismounted, jerking his head and stretching his neck, leaning it down. Zay kept a hold of the reins, iceberg eyes brightening a little at the memory that burned on his shoulder. His smile was thin and sharp as a knife. He felt the tingle, the itch, tickling the base of his spine. "It's been so long since it all started, one would he's long dead." His fist clenched. "But I know he has to be somewhere."

"I doubt that very much." Galen murmurs automatically in response to his first statement, eyes trained on the wall, gaze distant, snorts "He's around. I'd bet my life on it. The horses aren't fidgety for no reason."

He let his hand drop, studying the wall, his rogue mind kicking into gear. "Have you ever sent scouts beyond the wall?"

"I have." he murmurs, turning to look at him, eyes studying "But only one has ever managed to return, and even then, he died in front of us

"I have. But only one has ever managed to return, and even then, he died in front of us."
Zay's eyes remained on the wall, picking it apart, spotting the number of legion manning them, the legion scouts, the traps. After a few long moments, he spoke again. "What did they find?"
