"Okay. Fair enough. Be careful, Aru"
"I will, momma," he smiled, taking a few steps back, then turned and started bounding towards where they camped, weaving through the knights. He followed the trail, still running, and when he made it to the camp, he skid to a stop and looked around, a hand holding his hood. "Now to find Dad...." His eyes flicked around, and spotting a stallion in a small clearing, watched the man with it, his face brightening. He recognized that stance. He started running towards him, not seeing the commander, and Aru had run into him, stumbling and landing on his bum with a yelp. He started, eyes wide as he looked at the man. "I-I-I'm sorry, I didn't see you, sir." He scramble to his feet, hands holding the edges of his hood.

Walking towards X'Zayvean, Galen grunts when run into, frowns, hand flying to his sword, eyes on the boy "What's the meaning of this? Stand, boy, and tell me your name." he barks, voice softening at the end

Aru stood quickly, keeping his gaze down. "M-My name is A-Aru, sir. Aru Enzo." He looked towards the stallion and man, "I-I'm looking for my father, X'zay--" he stopped when he sees Zay's face, expression brightening.
"What's the meaning of this? Stand, boy, and tell me your name."
Hearing the initial bark, Zay stopped and looked towards where the commander stood, turning.
"M-My name is A-Aru, sir. Aru Enzo. I-I'm looking for--"
Zay's face broke into a smile and he kept a hold of Hros's reins, stepping further. "Aru?"
Aru grinning, darting around the commander and ran to Zay, leaping into his arms, his hood slipping a little as his feathers ruffled. "Dad!"

"Aru?"
Dad!"
"Your father?" Galen murmurs, frowning in confusion until he hears X'Zayvean, turns to look at him, watching the scene unfold

He pulled back and looked at him. "Aru, what are you doing here?" His face fell a moment as something clicked. "What about Avery? Has something happened?"
Aru grinned, "She said she'll catch up soon. And stuff has, you would no believe it. But, I promised mom I wouldn't tell."
"Aru!" Behind him, Hros grew energetic at his master's name.
"Nope!" he shook his head, hood falling down completely, feathers rising a bit. "I wanted to come and help, and mom wanted to try fighting again. I want to help make things better."
Zay sat Aru on his feet, kneeling. "You're just a lad. Are you really sure you want to do that?"
He nodded, expression turning determined. "I don't want anyone getting hurt anymore. The bad kings and the necromancer need to be stopped. I don't want to hide anymore, and I don't want to feel helpless either. I want to help, Dad, I really do."

"I can see where he gets his stubbornness." Galen murmurs with a chuckle, head tilting as he glances over the boy "He... Has feathers?" he asks before yelling when suddenly knocked over by a cloaked figure, knife held to his throat, didn't even see it coming, they moved so fast

Zay looked up to respond, seeing a blur and quickly pulled Aru behind him, hand lashing out and sending a dagger made of ice towards the figure, though missed their head by a mere inch and instead caught their hood, having never used his ice as a projectile before. His gaze had shifted into cold calculation and determination, hand moving to form another as he stood quickly, but a small noise from Aru stopped him.

Hearing the wind shift, she moves her head a fraction of an inch so the shard just barely nicks the edge of her hood, face still covered as she stills, crazy smile showing through the darkness "You've gotten slow, Galen." she murmurs, barely audible
Jerking in shock, Galen looks up at the figure in disbelief before it twists in anger, shifts, elbow coming up and catching her side, watches as she's sent flying towards a tree, sits up, brushing himself off "Damn it, Malyns."

"Damn it, Malyns."
Jerking to his senses, his expression loosened and turned to one of shock as his shoulders slumped. "Gods be damned, Avery, don't do that!" he breathed, eyes wide. "I could've hit you!"
Aru giggled and ran over to Avery, stopping near her grinning. "She wanted to surprise you!"

Spinning mid air, she lands on her feet with ease before she collides with the trunk, starts to spring forward again before she skids to a stop at the sound of Zay's voice, turns to look at him, hood still up
"Gods be damned, Avery, don't do that! I could've hit you!"
"She wanted to surprise you!"
"I did. And I succeeded." she murmurs to Aru with a laugh, hood falling with the movement, gaze finding his fathers "No offense love, but I doubt that very much, pregnant or not." smiling, her eyes twinkle
"If he doesn't kill you, I will." Galen barks at her, standing "That's the only time that'll happen, don't count on it again."

Zay's head fell back as he tried reining himself in as Hros jerked free from his grasp, bounding over to Avery and prancing around her, nudging her side gently. He looked back at Hros and Av, making a face. "He's a pain in the arse," he murmured, though a smiled a moment later. "A good horse, though."
Aru stayed by the tree, feathers ruffling in interest at the stallion as he stepped forward, watching him. Hros watched him back, and when he snorted, Aru started a bit, though he smiled widely.

Zay watched them a moment, then chuckled softly as she hugged him, arms wrapping around her waist, though as he saw her eyes darting around his face, he leaned back a little, expression brightening. "Wait. You mean.... You're saying your sight has returned?"
Aru stroked the horse's neck, then jumped up onto his back, having no issues due to his extremely light build, laying on Hros's neck and listened to the others. Hros pawed the ground, straightening, paying the boy no mind.

Zay kissed her back with a smile, setting her on her feet as he looked at Galen, then to Aru. "Aru, come here for a second."
He sat up then jumped down, bounding over to Zay, hugging him again, then looked at Galen, smile faltering when he just realized about his hood. He looked at Zay, worried. "I'm sorry, I should've--"
"No, Aru, you're fine," Zay ruffled his feathers, then looked at the commander. "He's a shifter, though he retains more of his animal counterpart than most." He looked at Aru. "Can you show him?" The boy hesitated, though nodded, having Zay's permission, and stepped back, jumping a little and shifting to his hawk form, perching on his shoulder with a ruffle of his feathers. Zay looked back at the commander. "Since I found him years ago, he's been my traveling companion, and over time I adopted him as my own. I don't know who his parents were-- only that his birth mother may or may not have perished in the legion fires four years ago."
He nodded to Aru, "You're all right now, thank you kiddo." Aru shifted back, though he moved to Zay's back, an arm around his shoulder, and Zay moved a hand to hold him up.
