"So this is your other child." Galen murmurs, taking in the news with stride, face calm, sticks a hand out "It's nice to meet you, son."
Leaning against Zay, Avery watches with soft eyes before her face twists, grasps her side where the wound is, breathing hard

Aru looked at his hand, then his face, studying, though he straightened and shook his hand, giving a sheepish smile. "Thank you, sir."
Hearing the change of breathing, Zay looked at Avery then frowned, studying. "What's wrong?"
Aru looked at her, hesitating. "Something happened while you were gone...."

Nodding, Galen turns at Avery's hiss, frown automatically crossing his face "Lay her down."
"What's wrong?"
"Something happened while you were gone...."
"Aru, no. I'm okay, really." she whispers, hand covering her mouth as she trembles, leaning over more "I just need to lie down, like Galen said. A few minutes of that, and I'll be good as new."

Zay frowned deeply and carefully picked her up as Aru slipped down from his back as he looked at Galen questioningly. Aru followed after Zay as he carried Avery to his tent, stepping inside and laying her down carefully on his cot. "What happened back at the cabin," he asked quietly, expression serious.

"You know I can smell lies," he said quietly, hand grasping hers.
Aru stood outside the tent, expression twisted in conflict as he fought himself. Tell? Stay quiet? His fist clenched as he looked down. Telling would upset Zay and make him feel guilty, and Av would be upset about upsetting him, Aru knew that. But if he didn't say anything, Av would continue to cover it when Zay or the commander could help. He backed away and crouched down outside, arms around his knees as he rested his chin on them. What to do?

"The baby's safe, and I'm alive." she whispers, small smile "That's all that matters. I'll heal, I will. So please don't worry." she murmurs "I brought fresh bandages to swap with the old ones when needed, and some herbs to help with the pain."

He leaned against her hand a little, grasping it. "The worry will still be there." He leaned forward and kissed her forehead. "But rest. I'm trusting your judgment, but if you get worse, you will have to tell me. Okay?"
Standing, he brushed the hair from her face. "I'll let Aru sit with you, but there's some training I've got to do. If anything happens, let him no and send for me."

"You can. But not with this, Av." His expression held stern resolve. "Aru doesn't need to see what's on the other side. It took me a long time to convience him that what he saw was only a nightmare." He sat on the edge of the cot. "some men need to be here and ready when we return. I need you here." His voice was low, but not demanding. "I know I can't stop you, but I can at least ask you to be ready here."
