"Save your breath," Esper murmurs, grabbing the extra baggage and shoulders it, taking off in a sprint as Onyx follows after her, stride smooth. "If we don't get you out of the cold and near a fire, with your blood loss, you'll freeze to death."

"You don't have to do this." Jakys murmurs, quiet as he rests against Onyx, one arm wrapping around his neck loosely so he doesn't fall off, tired as cold seeps in

"Stay your tongue!" she hisses, continuing forward until she reaches what is left of the camp, and she guides Onyx into an old tent. Once inside, she quickly makes a pallet of furs and carefully pulls him off of the wolfs back, laying him on the furs. "Onyx, go get some wood. I have tinder, but we need feed it."
He shifts and nods, murmuring, "Yes, m'lady," and hurries out as Esper moves and starts a small fire.

Eyes closing, Jakys does what she says without question, even talking starting to tire him.
"Onyx, go get some wood. I have tinder, but we need feed it."
"Yes, m'lady,"
Groaning when she moves him yet again, he grasps his side when laid down, face pale

"Stay awake," she hisses again, tossing a small ball of snow (made by some that collected on her clothes) at his face. She finishes with the start of the fire just as Onyx comes in, and he lays a few large pieces on it as she moves back to Jak's side.

"I am awake." Jak mutters lowly through the groan that escapes at the feeling of cold snow hitting his face, eyes slowly crack open to look to her as she sits

Without replying, she pulls out a bandage and starts to tend to his hand. "Tell me what happened back there."

"I was on my way back to the tribe when I got attacked by a shadow, managed to fight it off until it's blade went through my hand. I fell, hitting my head on the way down, and passed out." Jak mutters, ceiling starting to spin on him. pain crossing his gaze "It must have took on my appearance somehow, and found you. Then, you know the rest."

She finishes her task in silence, gaze growing troubled as she mulls over the idea of the shadow. "I wonder who its conjurer was, and what they were trying to accomplish." She leans back, gaze on his hand as she continues to bounce ideas in her head. "And why would they want a Ma'heege?"
"If I may," Onyx murmurs, and Esp gives a small, almost indistinguishable nod. "With a Ma'heenge, one have more power over others. Though to the tribes we are companions and allies, to civils we are beasts who exist just to kill. We're larger than the timbers, and we skinchangers hold more power than any creature can imagine. And when a human has the ability to win the bond, it means they not only have a loyal companion at their side, but it also means that they have the will and the strength to set out to achieve their heart's desire."

Opening his mouth to give his input to them, Jakys stiffens, breath hissing out as pain shoots through his hand. Raising it to his eye level, he grits his teeth at the sight of the center of his palm colored black, curses as it starts to spread outwards towards his fingers, jerking

Seeing the black, Esper's hand lashes out quickly as she leans forward and inspects it when recognition crosses her gaze. "That wasn't a shadow. I'll be damned," she hisses and turns towards the fire, digging in her pouch for a small black drawstring bag, and she reaches inside and pulls out a pinch of a black dust, taking a breath and murmurs something under her breath, releasing the dust into the fire. The fire flickers black a moment, before returning to normal. "The shadow you saw was a Legion, which means the one that took your place was derived from them." Pausing, she jerks her hand back and jerks u her sleeve, searching her wrists for any signs of burns.

"So what does that mean?" Jak mutters, deathly quiet as he looks over at Esp, frowning when a portal opens up beside her
"It means you could die unless I help you." Kiyori murmurs to the voice, irises clouded as she turns her head to look in the direction of Esper despite being blind, swaying, unsteady, eyes dilated "I assume you want me to help him?"

Esper turns and looks at her, opening her mouth to speak before it closes as she recognizes something different. "Just how much magyk have you used?" she said quietly, taking note of the exhaustion. "You look as though you're about to drop."

Kiyori murmurs quietly, shrugging it off as she walks closer to Jakys, steps uneven as another low curse is heard from him, the darkness spreading again, this time faster "But if I don't help your friend soon, he will die. Just do me a favor and leave that portal open, don't touch it, so I can get back."

She studies her, half of a mind to argue, but she knows it's impossible. So, quietly, she turns to the portal and raises a hand, using what little magyk she has power over to insure it remains open.
